Rachel Lewis
Rachel
Lewis moved to the South Coast in 2002 from Buffalo, New York, where she
had a long and successful career as both a soloist and voice teacher.
She has been a soloist with the Buffalo Philharmonic under Maestro
Julius Rudel, with the Artpark Opera under Maestro Christopher Keene,
and with Ars Nova under Maestro Mary Louise Nanna. In addition, she has
performed as a soloist with numerous choral groups. Ms. Lewis’ concert
performances also include appearances with the Syracuse Opera, the
Indianapolis Opera, and the Buffalo Opera Unlimited.
Ms. Lewis has distinguished herself for the rich, pure tone of her
soprano and the warmth of her voice. Said Trotter of the Buffalo
Evening News, “Rachel Lewis projected her pure-toned soprano
effortlessly over the entire range.” Putnam of the Buffalo Courier
Express described her voice as “pure-toned and rich-sounding.” Adding to
these praises are the words of Dwyer of The Buffalo Evening News who
said, “Soprano Rachel Lewis has a clear, easy-moving voice. Her
performance was heightened by feeling and sensibility as well as
intensive preparation in detail.”
Ms. Lewis earned her AB in Music from Douglas College of Rutgers where
she studied with John Powell. She completed her musical training by
earning a MFA in Voice from SUNY Buffalo, where she studied with Muriel
Hebert Wolf.
