Mission Statement

The South Coast Chamber Music Society is dedicated to presenting high quality chamber music to Greater New Bedford and the communities of Southeastern Massachusetts.  Our education outreach program, Creative Ears for Tomorrow, is committed to engaging and educating culturally diverse young people in chamber music. This will build capacity for audiences and contribute to the cultural enrichment of our community.

The South Coast Chamber Music Society (SCCMS) was formed in 2001 to present high quality classical chamber music for the communities of Southeastern Massachusetts. SCCMS held its first subscription series concert on October 20, 2001. Since then, we have presented 20 concerts, featuring composers from Bach and Brahms to present-day masters such as Takemitsu and Harbison. At each concert, we attempt to vary the instrumentation, blending winds and strings, engaging guest artists to present a wide range of musical colors and styles.

Creative Ears for Tomorrow (CET) merged with SCCMS in 2003 as its educational outreach component. Active since 1992, CET brings classical music to students in their schools. We teach music appreciation through a highly interactive program incorporating music into the statewide curriculum for each grade level (i.e. geography, social studies, science). CET serves the youth of the Commonwealth by educating young audiences in classical chamber music.
